“We live in a fathomless sea of plastic mind substance.”
That comes from Point #1 of Week 25 of Master Key Arcana by Charles F. Haanel.
In full, it reads:
1. We live in a fathomless sea of plastic mind substance. This substance is ever alive and active. It is sensitive to the highest degree. It takes form according to mental demand. Thought forms the mould or matrix from which the substance expresses. Our ideal is the mould from which our future will emerge.
The metaphor Mr. Haanel uses — “plastic” — can be taken to refer to evolution or growing, which we see happening around us every day.
We can add that we are evolving according to our own plan.
We think of an ideal. The plastic mind substance responds and brings us closer to our ideal.
Do we become perfect? Is what emerges from the mould perfect?
Regardless of whether or not a state of perfection exists and whether or not we can attain it, anything we do to improve our condition — mentally, physically, spiritually — is better than what we were.
It’s evolution.
Growing. Constantly growing. Constantly becoming.
Maybe we’ll never become perfect in the absolute sense of the word.
And that’s okay.
Because we will always be getting better.
Coming to an understanding of that is truly the mark of a mind “made perfect.”
